American Community Survey
The American Community Survey is a new nationwide survey designed to provide communities a fresh look at how they are changing. It will replace the long form in future censuses and is a critical element in the Census Bureau’s reengineered 2010 census plan.

     Supplement. Select from variables such as Age, Labor Force, Educational
     Attainment, Income, Poverty Ratio, Health Insurance Coverage,

POVERTY GUIDELINES AND THRESHOLDS

• Guidelines - U.S. Department of Health and Human Services web site
  The "other" version of the federal poverty measure. They are issued each year in the Federal Register by the U.S. Dept. of Health & Human Services. The guidelines are a simplification of the poverty thresholds for use for administrative purposes -- for instance, determining financial eligibility for certain federal programs.

• Thresholds - U.S. Census Bureau web site
  The original version of the federal poverty measure. They are updated each year by the U.S. Bureau of the Census. The thresholds are used mainly for statistical purposes -- for instance, preparing estimates of the number of Americans in poverty each year.
